Thanks to everyone who has called to ask how they can help support
my campaign for City Council – District C. I am honored by
your confidence in me.
The campaign is in full swing. The job that will be done at City
Hall will differ significantly depending on which candidate is elected.
I encourage voters who are undecided to learn as much as they can
about each candidate. Check
the District C Campaign Finance Reports here to see how much
money has been raised by each candidate and from what sources. See
how much has been spent on each campaign.
I believe that a campaign reflects the job a candidate will do in
office. If a candidate only knows how to solve problems by spending
money and hiring consultants, then that is the method they will use
when elected, only with your tax dollars. It is
important to choose your candidate wisely, as a candidate who wastes
money is an elected official who wastes money. It is time to elect
a candidate who is committed to hard work and knows how to conduct
business on a shoestring budget.
Use your vote and your voice to demand better from your elected
officials. Choose a candidate who is not dependent on consultants
and professional fundraisers. Choose a candidate who has a proven
commitment to neighborhoods over a long period of time, not just
since they decided to run for office. I have 15 years experience
working on projects throughout District C and I would be grateful
for your vote on November 8. 2005.

With this letter, I am announcing my candidacy for Houston City
Council – District
C. Some have asked why I would seek such a challenge. A good question
and one that deserves an answer.
As you may know, Council Member Mark Goldberg is term-limited and
not able to seek re-election. Through years of service to the community,
I have gained the expertise necessary to serve the residents of District
C and facilitate neighborhood improvements.
I believe it is important for Candidates to demonstrate a long-standing
interest in community issues, not just an interest since they announced
their campaign. I have been working on community projects for over
15 years. I have attended Capital Improvement meetings
(CIP) in all 9 Council districts – the only candidate to do
so. Having attended these meetings for 8 years,
my record of interest in city government is clear. Why is this important?
To be an effective Member of City Council, one must understand the
needs of all districts and learn about projects in other neighborhoods.
But interest is not enough. You must support a candidate who has
a track record of success on a variety of projects. I am that candidate.
I have visited city facilities within the district and worked to
identify district needs. I served on the Linkwood Park Advisory Committee
to correct design and construction flaws identified at Linkwood Park
after it opened in 2000. The City had balked at correcting the problems
until a group of concerned citizens came together to voice their
concerns. We held the City and their contractors responsible for
correcting these problems and the construction flaws have been repaired.
I strongly believe that citizens with integrity and ability have
a responsibility to offer their services to the community. We have
no one to blame but ourselves if we are dissatisfied with the system
and do nothing to improve it. I am now seeking the opportunity to
work on behalf of all the citizens of District C and believe that
it is essential that the person selected to represent District C
be committed to serving neighborhoods of District C on a full-time
basis. I am that candidate.
District C needs effective, full-time and fair representation. You
can help the SIVERSON FOR COUNCIL CAMPAIGN by walking a block, writing
letters, making phone calls, placing yard signs or by offering your
expertise to the campaign.
If elected, I will strive each and every day to make District C
and the City of Houston a better place to live. Your vote on November
8, 2005 will be critical. Your help now to share the message of the
SIVERSON FOR COUNCIL CAMPAIGN with your friends in District C is
critical! Let me know what you think about the issues facing District
C, the city and the campaign.
I will be grateful for your support. |
