Judy Siverson was born in 1958 in Houston, Texas.
She was raised in Braes Heights, now known as Braeswood Place, and
attended Mark Twain Elementary, Pershing Junior High, and Lamar High
School. Upon graduation, she received the Mary Gibbs Jones Scholarship
from Houston Endowment, Inc.
Ms. Siverson attended Duke University and graduated cum laude with
an AB degree in Political Science and Management Sciences / Accounting.
Her strong belief in volunteerism led to her first job as Community
Services Coordinator for the inaugural year of the North Carolina
School of Science and Mathematics, a public residential high school
for gifted students. She placed 150 high school students in volunteer
positions throughout the community.
Following that assignment, Ms. Siverson owned a small business in
Durham, until family responsibilities brought her back to Houston
in 1990. Since returning to Houston, she has served as a neighborhood
volunteer on several projects, including coordinating volunteers
for a monthly recycling program which preceded curbside recycling
and organizing several neighborhood special events. She was instrumental
in organizing the first neighborhood July 4th Celebration in 1995
and served on the Planning Committee for several subsequent July
Fourth Celebrations.
She served as President of Braeswood Place Homeowners Association
for two years. During her tenure as President, membership in the
organization increased by over 200 members. Limited to serving two
consecutive years as President, she now serves as the Karl Young
Park Committee Chairman.
In 1998, Ms. Siverson received the Astrodome/610 South Loop West Community
Citizen of the Year Award from the Greater Southwest Houston
Chamber of Commerce in recognition and appreciation of her outstanding
voluntary service for the benefit of the community.
